Tres had watched her pad out of the room in those ridiculous slippers after suggesting she take a shower and they could worry about plans later. He grinned thinking about those slippers, though. They showed a playful side she seemed to hide most of the time. In fact, she showed a new side to her every time he saw her. The few women he’d actually dated in past years hadn’t taken long to figure out. They were either career driven or light between the ears. Either way, not very interesting. He liked that she couldn’t be read so easily. It made her fascinating.

Once the shower had gone on he spent more time than he should imagining her in his shower. Her long dark hair wet and slicked back. When his mind started tracing water drops from her neck to her collarbone and beyond he knew he was in trouble. He purposefully closed the door on his imagination and called Gina.

With all the problems that came with big snowfalls, there wasn’t much for her to report on their case. Knowing the office would be short handed he hadn't kept her long. That had left him with the sound of the shower turning his thoughts back to Izzy. He allowed himself to think about her, but forced his mind to remain in g-rated territory.

Tres enjoyed the sound of her laughter. He liked her healthy appetite, too. Women that picked at their food drove him crazy. So far, about the only things he didn’t like about her were her views on his desire to avoid relationships, and not knowing what or who made her feel the need for a gun.

Granted, he’d probably confused the first point when he kissed her, and then pushing the issue when he took her home from his parents' house. What the hell had he been thinking? That you wanted her? Okay, a sarcastic conscience was really annoying. He didn’t think he’d ever forget the panicked look in her eyes last night. And the way she avoided any discussion about it afterward. She had just brushed it off as a typical reaction to the gunfire.

He knew better. Her reaction was anything but typical. Most people, not only women, would simply duck and stay there after such an attack. Izzy had obviously felt a need to defend herself. Was that why she thought Silas might not be responsible? Did she know someone else who could be? Tres wanted to know what or who scared her so much.

He flipped open his laptop and started a search. The hair dryer stopped before he’d even typed in her full name. Tres decided he should try asking her first. While he cleared the screen he heard the bathroom door open. An uncharacteristic eagerness had his body on alert to every sound. He recognized it as a desire to see her. Desire had been absent from his life for a long time. He wasn’t sure he wanted it making an appearance. Then she walked around the corner.
